Following a break in 2025, this year’s Africa Day took place once again in the garden of the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus.
The main organizers this year were four associations from Schwerin that are active in Africa: Couleurs Afrik e.V. – Die Farben Afrikas, DAZ e.V., Togo Jetzt! e.V. and Miteinander Ma’an e.V. Alongside them, numerous other associations and initiatives presented themselves and their projects in Africa at their respective stands.
For the first time, Togo Jetzt! took charge of the event’s financial management and submitted the relevant funding applications.
The musical highlight was provided by the band “Fulani” from Berlin, along with their founder Abdou Rahime Diallo, who also ran a workshop with pupils from Ecolea in Schwerin.
In the Schleswig-Holstein House, two events took place one after the other, running parallel to the activities in the spacious garden: guests of the festival could watch the film ‘Ohne Schule keine Träume’ (‘No School, No Dreams’), a portrait of everyday school life in northern Togo, filmed with funding from the NDR broadcasting system. The other was a book reading by Schwerin-born author Dorrit Bartel, who read from her latest book, ‘Der Äthiopier’ (“The Ethiopian”). As in previous years, there was also African food, dance and theatre performances, a raffle, arts and crafts activities for children, and plenty of opportunities to find out about the as-sociations’ project work at the various information stands.
We were delighted to welcome the many visitors with whom we were able to chat at our stand. The proceeds from sales and donations will once again go towards our project work; a large proportion of the donations will go to the CADOR orphanage in Lomé, and we remain in con-tact with its director, Ms Kpodoh.
